Robert Stewart, in his own words
If he could speak to us today, Robert Stewart might describe his life as follows.

I was likely the son of Daniel Stewart and Sarah Baugh. Father died before 1737 and Mother, who could not write her name, was still living in 1756 when she and I witnessed a deed.
Chesterfield County tax rolls for 1747 and 1756 include my name and reveal that Joseph Ward, the son of my cousin Sarah Stewart, was living in my household. Although Joseph had lots of land and married a woman in Amelia County in 1749, he likely returned to my Chesterfield household by 1756 because he had been married to one of my daughters who died young.
Tabitha Ward, the wife of Thomas Ligon, named her first son Robert S. Ligon, presumably because I was her grandfather.
No records reveal what became of me or my mother, Sarah.

John also witnessed a deed with John Ward in 1754.
