Joseph Watkins, in his own words |
If he could speak to us today, Joseph Watkins might describe his life as follows. |
 |
My only child was Mary Watkins who went to great efforts in 1690 to see that 340 acres in Warwick County she inherited from me became the property of her son Joseph. Since that plantation had belonged to my father, Richard Watkins, it remained in the family 4 generations. |
I may have been the Joseph Watkins of York County who by 1658 took the twice-widowed Elizabeth as my wife. By Humphrey Stafford, she was the mother of Christopher Stafford, before marrying William Purnell. |
Since the records of Warwick County where I probably moved are missing, no will for me remains—that is if I had a will. |
